Adult Classes

STREB offers Adult classes for dance students and professionals. Developed by Elizabeth Streb over the last 20 years, PopAction classes help dancers acquire new skills by posing unique challenges: change your base of support in a rapid fire way, physically designate specific locations in vertical and horizontal space, learn to pop the muscles to initiate action (rather than skeletally transferring weight), train for impact, learn to fly with low-to-the-ground maneuvers that increase spatial awareness, and incorporate a timing system that is not musical but physical (“felt timing”). The classes confronts issues of falling and fear. STREB operates on a ‘personal best’ principle; the method suits all body types, ages, and skill sets. All adult classes are taught by current company members.

Get ready to POP to the next level! Designed to challenge the intermediate to advanced POPACTION technician, STREB REP is focused on individual as well as group POPACTION proficiency. Come have fun and hone your skills as we revisit works such as "Wall", "Add", "Link", "Ground Level", "Log", and more!
Prerequisite: Experience in POPACTION classes.

Flip and Tuck offers conditioning and training for both advanced tumblers and those new to acrobatics in a personalized and supportive atmosphere. It’s a fun and challenging way to increase overall flexibility, core strength, and body alignment – and grow your acrobatic skill set in the process!

Join us for NYC's first indoor action fitness bootcamp! It is a unique class for anyone looking for a fun and challenging way to work out in an environment stocked with extreme hardware and apparatus. Leonardo, certified personal trainer and a seasoned member of the Streb Extreme Action Company, will incorporate interval exercises along with circuit stations and sports drills to offer a total body workout for any person (beginner through advanced) who is ready to take their fitness to the next level. Creative body-weight and resistance exercises, coupled with bursts of cardio intervals, will ensure that you burn at least 400 to 600 calories each class. Achieve your desired results and tap in to your adventurous side with a workout that could only happen at S.L.A.M.!

Train your body for a broad range of movement possibilities, empowering you to explore and travel through the rugged terrain of New York City or any urban space with an increased flow! This course seeks to enhance the mover’s kinesthetic and spatial awareness as it relates to an urban environment. We will focus on strength, endurance, alignment, efficiency, range of motion, and artistry. Throughout the semester we will touch on somatic and condition practises including yoga, gymnastics, trampoline, Bartenieff Fundamentals, and Pop Action

Come to SLAM for a spin! German wheel has existed as a gymnastic sport since 1925, recently growing in popularity due to its exposure as a circus apparatus. A smooth learning curve allows students to progress at their own pace. The variety of movements available on the Wheel are staggering. Flip, roll, swing and invert yourself inside this giant metal hamster wheel! The Wheel encompasses all the fun and excitement of gymnastic tumbling without the high impact. Classes are taught by Chris Delgado, a certified German wheel instructor, with over 4 years of teaching experience. Thin-soled "converse" style canvas shoes are the ideal footwear (Not sneakers). Offering beginner to competitive level training. Get fit, have fun, and try something new!

The Art of Balance! A superb challenge that's a brilliant way to gently improve your posture, body awareness (and back health!) whilst having buckets of fun. Learn techniques to walk, run, dance and perform tricks on a wire! Just like the circus pros do! Everyone uses standard "Low wires" approximately 1 foot off the ground surrounded by mats to ensure everyone's safety. There are no prerequisites for this course, but it's requested that you wear ballet slippers or flat soled gymnastics shoes. This open class is taught by SLAM's own Bobby Hedglin-Taylor and combines warm up, technique, style and conditioning to increase core strength, balance and get you in shape!
