Trisha Brown: Never the expected.

Elizabeth Streb & S.L.A.M. present the annual Action Maverick Award to Trisha Brown, choreographer, dancer, artist, activist.

What is an Action Maverick? An original. A person that breaks the rules, re-interprets or establishes new parameters of their craft. New artistic, educational, scientific visions.
A risk taker. A hero. Trisha exemplifies the reason such an award exists.

Our annual fundraiser, the Action Maverick Award, celebrates the bravery, strength, courage, openness and interdependence that both SLAM and STREB embody. We invite you to become an Action Hero by attending the 2010 STREB Action Maverick Award.

This year’s event, which will include cocktails and dinner, will take place at SLAM on Thursday evening, May 6 and will honor dance pioneer Trisha Brown. Former Action Maverick awardee Philippe Petit will be in attendance to walk on our newly installed wire, as will celebrated satirist Kate Clinton who will host the event, which will also feature a performance by STREB company members.

Funds raised from the Action Maverick Award supports free and low cost SLAM programming and creative collaborations that change lives.

The POP ACTION School, España/Streb Trapeze Academy, SLAM SHOWS, Emerging Artist Commissioning, Action Opportunity programs and numerous community partnerships all happen at SLAM, a home for local, national and international action mavericks who embrace the possibilities inherent in a unique place like SLAM.

Help us nurture the kinds of students whose values are expansive, inclusive and sustainable. Together, we can push boundaries in so many ways, creating art and a world that we want to live in. May 6th is a step in that direction, and one we hope you will take with us.
